Longest Day Challenge Diary......

"Mr Captain/Secretary, We did the Longest Day Challenge yesterday 22nd August. Playing Manchester, Rochdale and 2 rounds at Lobden.

We tee'd off at Lobden at around 2pm completing 36 holes and finishing at just after 8pm, scoring reasonably well. The course was in great condition. Phil Delaney from Manchester Golf Club was full of praise for the condition of the course ad was amazed by the views. Steven, Andrew and myself were pleased to hear such positive comments. Our thanks as always go to David, Steve, Kevin and the rest of the members that work on the course.
We played the 1st from the 10th tee due to the ongoing birthday party and the bouncy castles which added to the fun. The car park was over flowing and therefore avoiding cars park on the road across the 1st needed concentration  :-)     Nice to see the clubhouse so busy and hopefully there were some nice takings behind the bar, they looked busy.

The scoring was best 2 from 4 stableford full handicap. We Scored Manchester 89, Rochdale 88, Lobden Rd 1 95 and Lobden Rd 2 84. I think that's a fair effort we played properly to the end all 4 finishing all 72 holes. The last 18 were tough to get through. You can see from the photo below we finished just as the sun was disappearing. A great thank you to Lobden Golf Club for allowing us to play the course. So far we have raised almost £1500.

Regards , Ian Alletson. "

Roy's Poem
Dedicated to the late Roy Jefcoate, this poem was written and recited by David Washington following the evening meal on Captains day 2011.  Please follow the link above.

King Of The Hill

STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN AT LOBDEN ON A SUNDAY IN JUNE
IT COULD BE THE WEATHER OR THE PHASE OF THE MOON
A GROUP OF MIXED GOLFERS TAKE A CLUB AND ONE BALL
THEN CLIMB UP BROWN WARDLE, A TASK NOT TOO SMALL
IS THIS JUST FOR PLEASURE SOME RUN OF THE MILL
NO THIS IS TO CHALLENGE THE ‘ KING OF THE HILL’

START FROM THE CAIRN AND TAKE YOUR FIRST SHOT
THEN FOLLOW THE BALL, SET OFF AT A TROT
WITH SPOTTERS ON HAND, THE BALL TO BE SEEN
YOU MAKE YOUR WAY DOWN TOWARDS THE 9TH GREEN
IF YOUR BALL IS LOST YOU'RE OUT OF THE GAME
SO ITS BACK TO THE CLUB YOUR HEAD HELD IN SHAME

IF YOUR LUCK HOLDS TRUE THEN THE FLAG IS IN SIGHT
JUST A COUPLE MORE SHOTS THIS COULD BE A GOOD NIGHT
ONTO THE GREEN AND A TAP WITH A ‘PING’
IT’S GONE IN THE HOLE, YOU’VE JUST BEEN CROWNED KING!
